Valley of flowers requires almost a week’s time from Haridwar and a minimum of 10 days from your home in most of the cases. So it becomes very important to know the other places to be seen in the nearby area on your trip. There are some important but commonly skipped places in the area.
Everyone who is coming for valley of flowers trip either a nature lover or a photographer. There are some pilgrim destinations in the area which these nature lovers tend to skip being not so religious. This is the most common mistake they do. Hemkund Sahib and Badrinath are these destinations and both of them are in the heart of beautiful mountains, waterfalls, rivers and much more.

Places to see near Valley of flowers : Badrinath
Badrinath is just 25 km from Govindghat and the road journey from Govindghat to Badrinath is very thrilling and exiting. You will see lot of beautiful and very high waterfalls on your journey from Govindghat to Badrinath. Badrinath is on the bank of river Alaknanda. It has world famous temple of God Vishnu. There is a hot water spring near the temple. You can trek from Badrinath to Charan Paduka from Badrinath. It is a very beautiful trek. In the morning do not forget to see Neelkanth Peak in true golden color.
Mana Village : Mana is a very small hamlet just 3 kilometer from Badrinath. It has lot of historical and mythological importance. You can see starting Point of Saraswati River which is very beautiful scene to watch and a geographical miracle when the whole river comes out of one tunnel and nothing is scene at the back. It is a must watch for every nature lover. You can also see Ganesh Gufa and Vayash Gufa along with Keshav Prayag. It is confluence of river Alaknanda and Saraswati. You can also buy woolens made by locals.
Vasudhara Falls :
Very beautiful falls near Badrinath and the trek to Vasudhara Falls starts from Mana Village. The trek is 6 kilometer one side and not very steep. You need one full day for this trek. You will see lot of beautiful flowers on your way to falls. The water in these falls fall from 13200 feet to 12700 feet (Google earth). It is believed if water droplets fall on you, you are very lucky. The trek further goes to Satopanth and Swargarohini.

Hemkund Sahib :
Hemkund Sahib is a must visit on your trek to Valley of Flowers. The trek to Hemkund Sahib starts from Ghangaria itself and the first 300 meters are common for Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib. The trek is very steep and you can hire a pony also. You will be trekking from 10200 feet to 13500 feet in a trek of 6 km. You can see lot of beautiful flowers at Hemkund Sahib you are going there from July to August. If you going there is the month of June you will see huge glaciers and snow everywhere.

Auli :
Auli is a very beautiful and is famous for its alpine meadows. But it is also famous for its skiing slopes. But you will be visiting Valley of Flowers in summer so you will not see snow at Auli. Still if you have time you can go to Auli using ropeway from Joshimath.

Ghangaria :
Ghangaria is the base camp for Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib Trek. You can trek to Helipad grounds and go to deep forests near Ghangaria. If you love bird photography you can do so near the streams and in forest. You can also see some Himalayan Black Bear in the forest if you are lucky.
